 Apprenticeship Recruitment Information Seminar (ARIS) Update 

There is a substantial increase in the amount of people attending the Apprenticeship Recruitment Information Seminar (ARIS).  This is an essential step for any non-member beginner who wants to go to work through the Boilermakers (available in Edmonton).arisphoto

Our dedication to placing trained and safe workers onto our jobsites has created the demand for the WorkSmart two week pre-apprenticeship courses.  WorkSmart courses are ongoing and new graduates are continually entering the workforce.

 


 Information on WorkSmart   

WorkSmart is a comprehensive introduction to the boilermaker trade. It exposes students to industry environments, safety and workplace culture. The course combines theory and hands-on skills that will prepare students for gainful employment in the boilermaker trade.  

Individuals not currently indentured and who are interested in attaining work and beginning a career with Boilermakers Lodge 146 will want to attend the WorkSmart training. Pre-requisite to this training is the successful completion of the Apprentice Recruitment Information Seminar (ARIS) and pass the Boilermaker Medical.

Upon successful completion of this course students should be able to:  

  • Identify jobsite hazards and be aware of controls that can eliminate or reduce the risk of injury or damage
  • Understand the skill set that is needed to become a successful boilermaker
  • Students will be exposed to the safety attitudes that are essential on all jobsites
  • Have a working knowledge of tools found in industry and be able to use them safely and effectively
  • Understand basic concepts involved in welding
  • Understand concepts involved in oxy-acetylene cutting and compressed gas handling procedures
  • Safely operate and understand common equipment found in steel fabrication
  • Understand rigging concepts, responsibilites and safety
  • Develop hand skills and techniques used in the Boilermaker trade
