Calgary Update Spring/Summer 2010

terry

There are currently four shops in Calgary that employ approximately 230 trades people. The outlook for 2010 appears to be bright, as spring and summer are expected to be busy in all the shops. Two of the shops, Maloney and Natco, are presently recalling employees.

We are currently in negotiations with Maloney Industries which we hope to complete in the near future.

In 2009, Aker and Exterran, two of our manufacturing facilities, closed. This has left a large number of members on our out of work list. Due to this, the training facility is being used close to full capacity with members upgrading and re-qualifying for other opportunities for work in the shop or field. The training facility is also being used for CWB testing and is the Southern testing facility for "B" welders.

We would like to thank Brother Frank Nolan for all of his dedicated years of service to the Boilermaker Local 146 Union. Frank left us on Feb 17, 2010 to enjoy his much anticipated retirement. We wish him all the best and know he will be missed very much by the staff and members.

Feel free to visit our office to pick up a "Support our Troops" t-shirt and remember to check your calendars for dates of upcoming Union Meetings.

Fraternally
