A few of the other highlight cars at this years show were the University of Albertas Formula SAE who placed 7th overall at the 2011 FSAE West competition, Nap Pepins Electric car, a custom made electric reverse trike and Martin Woods car was out shining in the sun. This years show was dedicated to the memory of Martin and his family was there to show off his car in some fin burn outs after the show. Thank you to all the volunteers who dedicated there time and to the Quality Control Council of Canada, Unite Here 47, Encore Specialty Products Ltd. and The Building Trades of Alberta for their generous donations that helped to make this years show a success! Las Vegas Scramble Boilermaker Golf TournamentThank you to everyone who came out to our golf tournament this year and to all those who donated prizes and monetary gifts to JDRF and Dogs with Wings. All together we raised $5,735.00 for these two great causes. Saturday we made a difference and had a lot of fun doing it! Elvis and the Colonel were out again with all the usual fun vegas style challenges including this years newest addition the slot machine! Although we didn't have any big winners on the slot machine we did have big winners out on the course with Janice Malowany winning the Longest Putt for the ladies and Troy Mearon for the men. Cheryl Hamer won the Ladies Longest Drive and Danny Graham the Men's Longest Drive. James Johnson took home the $500 from the QCC Closest to the Pin Challenge and Kris Sobkiw the $500 TIW Closest to the Pin Prize. Ken Gochanour, Joseph Raimondi, John Birzgalis and John James Birzgalis found themselves once again tied up after 18 holes, this year with Kevin McHale, Tom Caul, Martin Collier and Joe Holmes. The tournament moved to the tie-breaking putting green for a putt-off. Ken hit a perfect putt right into the hole and once again team Gochanour came out tournament champions! Luc Lefebvre Family Picnic 2011The clouds parted Sunday June 12th around noon, just in time for our Boilermaker Family Picnic to really get going. Once again we had fabulous food, music and a lot of fun! Everyone sported sensational new tatoos, some lookin' fine with as many as 10 dotting their bodies! This year the activities started out with a scavenger/treasure hunt that had the kids racing around figuring out clues and completing challenges. Everyone did a wonderful job. We ended up with some pretty fantastic poems including my favourite; Roses are Red, Violets are Blue, Boilermakers make engines Bloom! by Joseph King, Jacob King, Reese Norman and Levi Pearson. After the young and young at heart tried out their skills at the foot races, sac races, tug-of-war, shoe kick and finally the much needed balloon toss which proved a heaven sent relief to the heat of the bright sun! Thank you to all the volunteers that dedicated their time and to all those who attended that helped out by offering their skills as judges and cleaning up at the end of the day. Check out the pictures posted of this year’s picnic and be sure to come out next year! To view this year's competition winners click here |
